Summary

Jupiter Academy provides primary education to 1.000 underprivileged children in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with special focus on the girl child. Three project centres are operational under the project at Takrohi, Amrapali and Samaudipur areas. Most of the children are first generation learners and come from adjoining villages and slums. Their parents have been working as casual labourers or daily wage earners at construction sites, small shops or roadside dhabas (small roadside eateries).
The product exhibition and sale was conducted by children under the guidance of staff of Jupiter Academy. The children made local handmade products and put them on sale for local community and donors. The products included home decorating items like wall hangings, paintings, table lamps, photo frames and candle stands.

Tips and lessons learned

1. Ways to approach corporates and businessmen to raise funds went well.
2. Brand building of Jupiter Academy and showcasing of the activities worked out well.
3. The process of organising a fundraising activity, like event planning and manpower planning, identifying various events that could generate more funds and complete budgeting can be improved for the next time.

Review by Wilde Ganzen Foundation

Although Jupiter Academy mentions a couple of things they could have done better, the overall impression is that their first attempt at raising funds was successful. They are already thinking of new events to raise more funds and can probably count on the presence of those who visited the product sale, as the follow-up of this activity has been excellent. Jupiter Academy kept in touch through social media and with phone calls.
