Review by Wilde Ganzen Foundation
When you have a really good item that everyone wants to have, a raffle is a good idea. REMER could engage the help of 30 collaborators to sell the raffle tickets. The raffle on Facebook enhanced their social visibility and led to promising new partnerships.
Details
Short description of the organisation the funds were raised for
Refúgio de Meninos e Meninas de Rua - REMER, is a philanthropic institution founded on January 9, 1989, by a group of 20 people, supported by the Dutch Foundation “Help Mij Leven”, to take care of children and adolescents in a situation of social vulnerability in the streets. It began in June 1988 when some people decided to start work to assist children and adolescents at risk on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. These people were driven by the unconditional love of Christ as they observed the reality of neglect and marginalisation of children and adolescents, especially in the Central do Brazil (train station) area. This population situation was noticed in parallel to the mobilisation and conquest of rights, effected with the promulgation of the Federal Constitution (1988) and the Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA, 1990).
Short description of the project or programme the funds were raised for
REMER MINAS – Shalom Ranch is a 36-hectares rural property that is located in the municipality of Pequerí, Minas Gerais State, 186 km from Rio de Janeiro, and 50 km from Juiz de Fora. It was acquired in 1992, with the aim of offering children and adolescents a space of greater contact with nature and far from urban violence. REMER MINAS - Shalom Ranch provides the Institutional Fostering Service, in village’s home systems, to children and adolescents removed from family life due to neglect, abandonment, physical and sexual violence, ill-treatment and exploitation of child labor.
Youth Home - Youth Fostering Service is also offered to Shalom Ranch adolescents who turn 18. This home is located on the property of the Shalom Ranch.
