Summary
Dani Development and Social Action was set up in 1999 to focus on the issues of education and welfare of children from poor socio-economic backgrounds. In order to secure funds for their work, they organised a ´Joy of Sharing Week´, for the first time in November 2013. The activities culminated in a fundraising event on India Children´s Day, November 14. The children showcased performances at the Dani Centre, the guests contributed in kind, cash and cheques. There were individual and corporate donations.
Tips and lessons learned
1. A consistent appeal will result in a positive response. It is important not to give up, even if a donor is not responding immediately. Second and third reminders were provided over the phone, through personal visits and by email. This kept reminding the donors about Dani’s appeal and resulted in many positive responses.
2. Dani learned the process of organising a fundraising event. Pre-planning of the event with preparation of the list of invitees and sending them invitations through emails and phone calls and personal invites.
Review by Wilde Ganzen Foundation
This is a good example of a fundraising event, making use of a Special Day. A strong point of this action is the consistent follow-up in every single phase of the action: invitations to the event were followed by phone calls and personal visits, donors who did not immediately respond to Dani´s appeal were contacted and after the event donors and well-wishers received regular updates and news about new initiatives.
