Child protection policy

Step 15: Working with partners to keep children safe

You’re almost there – this is the last step! In this final step, you write down in your Child Protection Policy how you’ll make sure your partners also keep children safe. These can be local communities and small organisations – eg children’s groups, local community structures, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), but also larger and more established organisations (NGOs, coalitions, INGOs, UN agency, government).

The most effective way of keeping children safe is to have a positive, supportive approach to work with partners. Briefings and other information sharing activities will be key. In practical terms this means making sure that there is a sound assessment of the partner you work with, on their work with children and how they keep children safe. If necessary, you reach agreement on how your partner will be supported to achieve compliance/competence regarding child protection.
