Know How

Social Media

Step 7: a few more tips

  • Too many organisations start by creating accounts on multiple platforms, only for them to become inactive in a matter of months. Not responding to your followers damages the brand more than not having a presence on the platform at all.
  • As you will be using a variety of channels, it is important to document all usernames and passwords in one place.
  • Use shared organisation email addresses, rather than personal e-mail for log-in details, as this can cause problems if staff members terminate their employment and can also discourage work- life balance.
  • Make sure that all appropriate people have administration details.
  • Try to come up with a Frequently Asked Question list and the answers that come with them. This might be too hard before you begin but the first couple of comments from people will teach you a lot.
  • Social media can also generate a lot of negativity, somewhere down the line you will have to decide what you will respond to, what doesn’t cause any problems if you leave it and sometimes it might be necessary to hide/delete something because it may harm your cause/reputation.
