Community Participation

Step 7: Encourage, motivate and facilitate

The community based organisation, together with the community, is in the heart of the change process.  They play an important role in stimulating self-esteem and increasing the self-confidence of 'the people concerned'. By adopting a facilitating or coaching attitude, they can support stakeholders to identify their priorities, define action points and make their interests known. Through open communication, these organisations can motivate and mobilise individuals, households and ultimately the entire community. In other words: When organisations adopt a facilitating or coaching attitude, change takes place (even more) from the central needs and communities are stimulated to shape their desired change themselves.
