Child protection policy

Step 12: Education and training for keeping children safe

All your staff who have contact with children have a role to play in their protection. They can only carry out this role confidently and effectively if they have the right attitude towards children, are sufficiently aware of child protection issues and have the necessary knowledge and skills to keep children safe. In this step, you reflect on learning opportunities for staff to develop and maintain the necessary skills and understanding to keep children safe.

This means:

  • identifying staff training needs
  • budgeting for training staff on child protection
  • making a list of people and organisations who are experienced in child protection and can provide training

Under the download, you’ll find a grid to identify training needs in your organisation. Include this grid in your Child Protection Policy.
