Storytelling

Step 2: Core of a Story

Every story has these basic elements:

  • Characters
  • Setting
  • Conflict
  • Plot

The crux in good storytelling is to create a conflict that your audience can relate to. Watch this short video to learn more about the core of a story.

Watch the video below, in which Change the Game Academy trainer Sarah Pacutho tells the story of one of the organisations she has worked with. She creates the setting carefully: 'The Batwa people were driven out of their land and livelihoods. How will they survive?'. Then she sketches the conflict: 'So many Batwa people have no access to basic facilities. How will the community group help them, without foreign funds?'. Watch the movie to discover the plot!
(Batwa is plural and refers to the people. A single member of this people is called a Mutwa)
